3 Things That Happen When You Don’t Wash Your Hands

We’ve all been there at some point — after using a portable toilet we fail to wash our hands given the lack the of water and soap and no hand sanitizer in sight. If you’re thinking “gross, I’ve never done that!” then perhaps you’ve always been fortunate enough to have a portable hand wash station nearby. But back to our first scenario… When a person fails to wash his or her hands, a couple of not so pleasant things happen. If you’re planning an outdoor event, you’ll want to follow along closely as the need to provide your guests with a portable hand wash station will be completely justified.

1- Illness Spreads Quickly

Roughly 80 percent of diseases are spread by the items we touch. Think about the chain of reaction: someone fails to wash his or her hands, they go on to touch their cell phone, loan their phone to their significant other, then their significant other goes on to touch a door handle at a store, and you can only imagine the number of germs on that door handle! This chain of reaction is certainly how illness spreads quickly when people fail to practice good hygiene.

2- Fecal Matter Tags Along With You

Without a doubt the idea that fecal matter will follow along with you is absurd! But failing to wash your hands ignites more bacteria to make its way onto your hands and then spread to other places and people. On average, we carry 200 million bacteria per square feet inch on our hands after using the bathroom. Imagine what happens when you leave the bathroom and don’t follow up by washing your hands. It’s suggested that after you use the bathroom, you spend at least 15 seconds rubbing your hands with soap and warm water.

3- And Worst of All — Fecal Matter Could End Up in Your Food

If you share your food and drinks with friends then you might want to know whether they’ve all washed their hands. If they haven’t, the germs from the bathroom are being spread all over the food you share. Think about all the hands that dive into a bag of chips or a bowl of popcorn. Now imagine that one hand who used the bathroom moments before then confidently reached for another scoop of popcorn. Knowing fecal matter has been spread on the rest of the popcorn will have you saying “no thank you” to sharing with anyone who doesn’t wash their hands, rightfully so!
